ACOF Notes from 2008-06-05

Greetings everyone,

I hope your summer is going well and you are untouched by flooding.

I have an update regarding Habitat and the plans for the events surrounding Summer Fest. We held a meeting on June 5th and decided many things. (Sorry the notes are so late!) There is a lot here to review so please review this carefully.

Briefly, we have 3 upcoming events centered on Summer Fest:

  • Our youth groups will build a shed to be used as part of a float in the Summer Fest parade.
  • Resurrection Lutheran and Holy Trinity Lutheran are hosting a ice cream and pie social at Resurrection Lutheran Church with proceeds going to ACOF.
  • We will staff a "board signing" table at RLC where a free-will offering will be taken as people sign boards
  • Shed Construction:

    • construction to take place at RLC which is located on Ash near the corner of Prairie Ridge Drive (right next to the Summer Fest grounds).
    • youth from all the ACOF churches are invited to help out. Contact your youth director to see if they are interested in participating. Ages 6th grade and up are invited.
    • construction is during the evenings from 5-9 pm on Thursday 7/10 and Friday 7/11
    • Jeff Ollie from RLC and Dick Webb from AFUMC are supervising construction
    • Habitat will provide the shed plans and construction materials

    Parade

    • The shed will be paraded on a flat bed trailer provided Jeff and pulled by Jeff's pickup in the parade
    • We will need banners and other decorations for the parade float
    • Karla Rice has registered our float in the parade
    • We need to discuss whether we will have walkers along with the float and who will ride on the float. We'll need to determine this at our next meeting.
    • Ice Cream and Pie Social

      • Being hosted by RLC with Holy Trinity assisting
      • They will let the other churches know if dessert donations are needed
      • Teri Happe is checking on ice cream cups, plates, and silverware
      • Everyone is invited. They are hoping for 350 in attendance
      • Each church should place a notice in their church bulletins about the free Ice Cream Social taking place on Saturday 7/12 from 2-4 pm.
      • Nancy has already sent a flier to the group which you can use at your church to advertise the event

      Board Signing

      • On site at RLC during Summer Fest we will have an information booth with boards available for signing
      • Nancy will provide a table, chairs signage, as well as sign-ups for Thrivent and the fall build
      • A free will donation will be accepted
      • A person is needed to collect the proceeds and keep track of them. Barney will ask Karen Newell. If Karen can't then Teri Happe volunteered to do this
      • A schedule for each church is attached to this email with YOUR CHURCH'S ASSIGNED time slot to STAFF THE BOOTH. Each church needs to provide volunteers for the booth during their allotted time.
      • Brendalyn will arrange to have the boards delivered. The preference was for a very large number of boards. (A whole pallet)
      • Scot will provide lots of sharpies for signing

Finally, just a couple odds and ends:

Some churches are having Habitat for Humanity mini-events or specially designated Sundays. If you need help with ideas on any of this, Brendalyn has lots of resources for ideas.

If you have not received your copy of the Habitat DVD, Barney has a copy for your church. A link for the video is on You Tube. Follow this link:

Our next meeting will be on Sunday June 29th at 3:30 at the OLIH library. We will discuss last minute plans for Summer Fest.

      Thanks,
      Steve Maruth
